Tucson Pest Animal Trapping Tip of the Month:
How Long does it take to Remove Tucson Raccoons from a Building?
Raccoons can be highly destructive if they get into your home. The one tell tale sign that one, or more are in your home would be the scampering of them in the attic when you can start to hear them running around. Before you try and remove them, you have to consider how many are up there and if there is a family of them residing in there.
First steps
Figure out how they got into the building in the first place. Are there holes in the roof or the siding, is there a lot of garbage around the area that they were naturally attracted to, is it a dark area in general (because Arizona raccoons don’t like the light, they are nocturnal creatures. There could be trees near the building that allows them easy access to get onto the roof and into chimneys or air ducts. They are remarkable climbers and opportunity takers because even if there isn’t a hole, they have the ability to dig through shingles and roof tiles as well. They will damage the interior of your home and can cause fires and other damage to the insulation of the house, which can reduce your energy efficiency as well as cause smells in the homes from their droppings.
How to remove them
Removing them can actually be a quick process, but it really depends on what you are using. Using a humane trap you can sometimes catch the Tucson raccoons overnight, in one night or even within a few minutes depending on what you are using for bait. Utilizing oily foods can greatly increase the chances of catching them quickly. Another way to instantly remove them (although if you are in your home I wouldn’t recommend this at all, but a building you can easily be prepared on the top of the building with a hose. You spray them with a hose and they will run away faster than you can blink, they don’t enjoy the water. It’s just like light; they don’t enjoy that either.
Having motion-activated systems can greatly improve you ability and speed to get rid of them. They are sensitive to change as they are nocturnal creatures. Creating something that automatically lights up the area, sets off sprinklers (which in the building you obviously can’t use) but something that will allow them to be startled will get them to leave. Including traps, you can get rid of raccoons with one night (unless there are babies).
Best Bets
Your best bet and quickest route for getting rid of them will be a humane trap. As stated you can get rid of them within one night with only some peanut butter (oily all natural works really well), and a trap to catch them. They are opportunistic and scavengers, the easier the hunt, the quicker they will get into the trap and then can be relocated.
